1  Practice Break / Chit-Chat / Re: Bunker 2018 on: Feb 06, 2018, 08:17AM
Today is a very sad day because we had to have dear old Maggie put down. I just can't imagine life without her because she was such a special loving dog for 15 years and my best mate.

Grah, I'm so sorry. I know the feeling very well. :( Some dogs are so much more special than others (I don't know why) and it hurts much more when we have to say goodbye. I still miss my best boy Kenny, who was a person rather than a dog.

Disappointingly cloudy on Monday, but looked good (although not spectacular) on Sunday.

This year, my band was almost booked to play for an Armistice Day event. It wasn't confirmed, so I eventually called to see why, and was told that the manageress thought we would be too loud. Hmmmm, surely not louder than war?!

I'm just in the middle of a FaceBook argument. It involves the phrase, "They gave their lives". This infuriates me every year. They did NOT give their lives, their lives were TAKEN, often by careless or thoughtless governments. Maybe some wars are justified, eg WWI and WWII, but I'm quite sure that none of the recent Middle Eastern wars have been.

I respect soldiers immensely and have sold poppies in the mall for a number of years, but to be drafted into an army and die for an unjustified cause is not, IMO, anything to celebrate.

Sorry if this is controversial.

I haven't listened to, or watched, any news programmes since Brexit. June 24th. I thought that was the maddest thing I'd ever seen and was just SO upset by it.

But now this!!! The US has elected a misogynistic, xenophobic, several-times-failed businessman and complete lunatic as its president!!! HIS finger on the Red Button!!!

Anyone read Stephen King's The Dead Zone?

The Four Horsemen are saddling up. I'm frightened. :(

Hello Tim! Hi

Apparently, rule number 1 for growing pitcher plants is that you don't feed them anything via the roots. Mine are planted in sphagnum moss, sit in dishes of rainwater, and are never given any sort of fertiliser. I don't know what's up with them! Confused

Maybe anorexic....?

Hello!  Hi

I'm really very sorry for my recent absence. :(

I've been lurking on FB rather than here. Embarrassed! I apologise and will try to do better. :shuffle:

I'm very, very much upset and annoyed by Brexit, and alarmed and annoyed by the American election options. Mad

I have two pitcher plants. The idea that they eat insects is a complete myth!! :-P

I've tried to feed them with flies I get from my lab, but it just doesn't work. The flies are NOT digested - they just sit there and rot. My new pitcher plant actually caught two flies the other week, but again, they haven't been digested. Weird.

Speaking of nature, why have my birds disappeared? I have a feeding station on my balcony, comprising holders for seeds and suet balls, and also a container of seeds, crumbled suet and mealworms.

Earlier this year, I had three blue mammalian protuberences, two great mammalian protuberences and two robins regularly attending. Now, nothing. Where have they gone? Surely, they can't all have died? :(

[edit] Oh for heaven's sake!! I've been censored!!

Is it my fault that certain small birds are called t*its???? :D

[edit edit]

The little running doggie has disappeared from my sig. :(

That must mean that the member hosting it for me has also disappeared. :( :(

Is this the new forum? Will the old one die slowly?

No. We have the same forum (this one!).

I like it and I'm hoping it will continue. :)

I'm not sure what will happen with the new one.

You can find it here....

You guys are silly. :)

We have had no indication whatsoever that RLB will not continue to support this site.

Had a quick peek at the new one. I hate the look of it. It's just like a thousand other fora.

It's like The Open Horn used to be, and that didn't last long.

This - The Trombone Forum - is the only forum I know which looks good. It looks different and I like it.

I won't be moving over.

However, I hope it goes well for you all, whoever you are and whatever you want from it.

I would like to know when was the last time that anybody on the moderating team (staff) had any contact with Richard? Has anybody made a serious effort to get in contact? Like maybe going to see him, if we know where he is. Do any of the members know how to get in contact with him - that might help.

My viewpoint is that Richard rescued this site when the previous owner became disenchanted. He put a lot of time, effort and I suspect money into the TTF website and gave us a wonderful window to the world of trombones and trombonists. I think he has a perfect right to consider that he owns the asset. I do know that he did at one time sell advertising space on it. As far as the content is concerned, he has always encouraged that the Terms of Use are upheld and, when he was also a contributor to the content, gave us lots of good info. That only seems to have changed when he became ill with heart problems. After that he tackled some small rebuilding etc., and placed that now out-of-date request for contributions. That seems to have been the last we heard from him. Is that correct? Or does someone still have access to him and is not telling us? First of all, I would just like to know that he is well! I suspect he is not because this is just not like the old Richard.

As far as contingency plans are concerned, I know that I always keep copies of really interesting information that appears and I would recommend that others do the same.

Personally, I would just like to see Richard back and I would like to see the TOU strengthened, particularly with regard to advertising. It is too easy to get around the present terms e.g. http://tromboneforum.org/index.php/topic,73670.0.html  42 pages about one brand! Yeah, RIGHT.

I'm in complete agreement with Grah. Also, I agree that Billy is the only one who has reliable contact with RLB.

Thank you! :)

I'm on FB, under my proper name, and am happy to "friend" any of you.

But I'm still hoping we will carry on here.... :)

*sneaks in quietly*

I'm still living in hope that RLB will continue to run the Forum and may, one day, come back as a member.

OK, I'm old enough to know better, but still.... :shuffle:

*sneaks out again*
14  Practice Break / Chit-Chat / Re: Bluebirds!!! on: Feb 24, 2016, 04:40AM
Stew, do you have a guaranteed place/season/time where I could see them?

Please look after them, which we certainly haven't done here.

Mind you, it's probably a bit like trying to see the Aurora borealis. I think Bill Bryson spent a month going bonkers in a dark and freezing Norway and was lucky enough to catch one on his final day!
15  Practice Break / Chit-Chat / Re: Bluebirds!!! on: Feb 24, 2016, 03:51AM
I love starlings. Cheeky beggars and very intelligent. They have beautiful iridescent plumage, they sing very cheerfully on sunny mornings whilst imitating other birds and all sorts of other sounds, and they form "murmurations", huge numbers of individuals which flock together in an eerie and co-ordinated fashion. My favourite birds. But they have declined by almost 80% in the UK over the last 30 years. My Luton murmuration, which gathered over the town centre on sunny evenings, has vanished. How can something so common and numerous disappear within such a short period? :(

16  Town Hall / Comments and Suggestions / Re: Continuity of TTF on: Feb 23, 2016, 09:09AM
My main worry about any change would be a change in the "look" of the forum. I really like the format of this forum and hate all the others I've seen.

[edit] Oh, a new post!

No, we don't want to lose old posts and information. Yes, new users have old questions which might make you think, Oh no, not that again. However, the question is new to the new poster, and an old question often provides new answers.

On Facebook, TromboneForum.org Members

Honestly, FB isn't at all scary! :)

18  Town Hall / Comments and Suggestions / Re: to reduce back and forth on: Feb 15, 2016, 02:27AM
We will not lose PP. It's a very useful place.

Chit-Chat was created as a place where non-trombone subjects could be discussed. Otherwise, they would inevitably be discussed in the trombone sections. PP was created as a place where political subjects could be discussed, otherwise they would inevitably be discussed in the Chit-Chat section.

The only alternative is extremely heavy censorship. :(

Your moderators do not want this. :)

Hello. I'm sure Bruce won't mind my giving his "other" email here.

As has been noted, if you can't get into TTF at all, you can't access it!

Save it now....
