4  Town Hall / Comments and Suggestions / Child Boards for Classified Ads. on: Jan 14, 2018, 01:45PM
I think Childboards for classified ad section of trombone forum would be great.

It would be great to organize the classified ad section into childboards such as Mouthpieces, Tenor trombones for sale, Bass trombones for sale, Want to buy, Miscellaneous, scam alerts, etc.

It would make it much easier for me an d probably many others to find that one post theyre looking for without spending time scrolling through tons of ads that xy and z don't need to look at anymore.

That's just my 2 cents. What are yours?

9  Horns, Gear, and Equipment / Instruments / New Hagmann Valve? on: Dec 28, 2017, 09:32AM
I was researching extra things to put on my hagmann valve (valve caps, tone rings, etc). When I found out there is a new redesign of the hagmann valve that took place in November 2016.

What exactly changed in the redesign? Are some problems fixed/created as a result? Does it play any differently? What are your general thoughts on this redesign?

Pictures can be found in this link

Thanks and enjoy your day.

Whatever you decide, Always remember to have a broad perspective on things in general. There are lots of really good players in this world who devoted every breathing second to practicing their instrument. When someone is that devoted, you can very easily only be interested in brass music and nothing else.

What is good about having a broad perspective on things in general is it allows you to think from many different angles.

You can be the next jo Alessi and not know how to teach an Eskimo to cut ice.

You Can be the next jay cutler and have a crap attitude.

You can be be the greatest educator in the world and would maybe rather die than perform in front of an audience.

Or

You can sacrifice being the absolute very best at one thing for being relatively  good at severa other things at once.

But only you can decide for yourself. Ask yourself, “what am I good at? What am I not good at that would make me an employable person? Which opportunify will develop those weaknesses in me that I feel need to be improved upon.

And most of all, no choice you make will be 100 percent perfect. One or two things will make you regret one thing or the other. It is most important to understand, “I see how this isn’t getting me where I’d like to. But I know for certain that it doesn’t mean I can’t do it.” Some day in the future, it will”.

Hope this helps, have a good day.

Suppose the teacher is the one with a dead father that was at the time financially supportive of him.

Point is. People should never stop short of doing their best to help others.

If I were his teacher, I’d give lessons for free. That’s the price one pays when something out of your control severely negatively affects one person you have the opportunity to help him with. The kid lost a great puzzle piece to his family and giving free lessons would honor his/her father. It also gives him/her a fair advantage because the loss of the breadwinner of the family should not impede anyone’s aspirations. If he wants to be a great player when he grows up, do whatever possible to let him be a great player. I think making him/her pay for lessons is being insensitive to the tragic loss the family dealt with.

That’s just my 2 cents.

It would be nice if the forum could create a "Dark Mode" option that inverts the colors for easy reading at night.

Like having white texts on a black window/background would be easy to read in the dark. Youtube, and twitter have this option.
