Magna cart is excellent - I've not seen a cart fold away so small!

Great wheels, very stable...

Bob is tight - a luggage cart and bungees is a good way to go. Good solution for under $30. Lots of varieties.

Knock on wood - never had any troubles.

I trust you immediately (before leaving airport) filed a claim? My bet is they don't respond very well after a certain time period.

Search by composer (Shostskovich, Beethoven, etc) and/or group (Kronos, Turtle Island, etc)on the Google - pick short sections/movements that reflect the mood you are trying to accomplish.

Put together a set for pre, intermission, and exit. Sounds like a great mix tape project! Have fun!

Break a leg!!!
6  Creation and Performance / The Business of Music / Re: Where To Buy A Tux (Chicago) on: Jul 20, 2015, 10:22PM
My nephew is going to ISU and needs to buy a tux. Where would you recommend he go. We live in Chicago.

Thanks for your help!

It used to be easier buying a high quality used tuxedo in this city - shame so many of the stores (especially down in the South Loop in Roosevelt) have moved out...rent is too high in the city for these types of places.

I've purchased many tuxes - new and used - and have had overall better experience shopping online. It's just easier and faster to find exactly what you need / want / can afford.

Just bought a new white dinner jacket from buy4lesstuxedo.com. Shipped the next day, got here in 3 days. Same thing when j ordered a new set of tails a year or so ago.

Don't be afraid if a used tux. Most often you can get the jacket, pants, cummerbund, new shirt, new shoes just under $150.

I have a variety - and I let the blend of the section and style of the music to dictate which one to use.

Doesn't have to feel good --- has to sound good!!!

Hello all,

I have a mid 90's set of Edwards bass thayers. I was going to send them into the factory to have them recalibrated.
I ended up w/o enough $$ to do this.
My questions:

Instead of having them recalibrated should I instead have them rebuilt?
Plan on buying new ones in the near future?

How do I know for sure that the valves need work? The spindle screw in the middle of the valve does not have excessive "play" in it. Which is good. But there is some "scoring" on the top and bottom of the "cores" and the "top plate" as well...

I had a chance to play on "loaner" valves from Edwards last summer and briefly this summer. The "newer" ones certainly are much more "friendly".

Looking forward to reading your responses :o)

Send them in, get a quote, decide.

Worth every penny when I did it a few years back...

Bravo, maestro!

I love your music room. A video tour of it would be awesome - so much cool memorabilia in there!

Reminds me very much of the following:

2nd one illustrates the intent more clearly.

My 1990 valves (especially the Gb) needed rebuilding a few years ago - my extrem case cost s pretty penny, but they were quick. Not sure how rebuilding and calibrating work - I've never done the latter. They did a superb job getting it back to spec, and did some excellent re-lacquering on the entire valve section, to boot!

I'm just curious as to why there would be problems between them.

It's what happens between human beings. Don't try to over analyze or overthink it!

The theif got your credit card, too?

Tell the cops where he/she has used the card (before you cancelled card, of course) - that could help them!

I am not a dentist.

But, I've had "class 1 mobility" in my front teeth for many years. In and of itself, it's not a bad thing. I may have had this condition since before I played trombone -- I simply don't recall...

Are you certain your trombone playing has caused this - or does playing the trombone just exacerbate it? (Or, maybe prolonged playing makes your teeth hurt a little?)

Be careful with your accusations - you want to go to this shop again?

Any of you remember on the NBC Dave Letterman show Larry "Bud" Melman sketches with "Bud" portraying the owner of Melman Bus Lines? One of my favorite mock commercials used a tag line I love:

"Melman Busses - where all the seats face backward. See where you've been, not where you're going!"

May we all take heed.

I do not.

It's best not to rest your horn on the bumper anyway...the bumpers should last forever!
