1  Horns, Gear, and Equipment / Instruments / Re: Wessex vs/and Jin Bao Contra Bass Trombone on: Jul 16, 2017, 10:16AM
Hi Jonathan,

Does the F Contra bass have a soldered bead bell and is the hand slide end crook yellow brass or nickel?

Is the leadpipe still a two piece?

Best,

C

4  Horns, Gear, and Equipment / Repairs, Modifications and Maintenance / Hagmann - Updated Design? on: May 11, 2017, 08:59AM
Hi All,

I am having a serious look at getting a Hagmann valve set built for my Shires bass and was wondering how the new version of the valve differs from the previous?

I am looking at either the independent progressive bore or independent two step, any one have any comments on either of these?

What are your favorite wrap designs for bass?

Best,

C

Thanks for the info, I am also really interested in these horns!

I was wondering if the gold bell version has a yellow tuning slide and if there is a nickel end crook option for the hand slide?

Thanks for all the info and links to this new horn!

I was wondering if the bell taper is the same as the modular horns?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Any thoughts on the Cerveny Piggy vs Miraphone clone?

Any noticeable difference between lacquer, silver or gold brass options?

Thanks Jim,

I have been in contact with Chuck and have something in the works and will try to post a picture when it arrives. He calls it a mouthpiece donut, is not listed in his store but elsewhere on his website. He is amazing to deal with btw.......

Thanks Again!

Hi All,

I am looking at adding a tuba double to my bass trombone for some potential pit work opportunities and was hoping for some feedback on what models of 3/4 or 4/4 CC tuba I should consider. I would like input only on 4 valve CC tubas at this stage.....

I am aware of the Miraphone 185/186 (and clones) and the Cerveny Piggy, what other cost effective and compact tubas should I consider? Any feedback on the mentioned instruments or others would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

13  Horns, Gear, and Equipment / Accessories / Mouthpiece Shank Weight-Cleveland/Ohio? on: Sep 21, 2014, 01:45PM
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew where Thomas Klaber (Cleveland Orchestra) had his mouthpiece shank weight (tone booster) made?
I remember having a lesson with him some time ago and he suggested I put more weight on the mouthpiece I was playing at the time. He mentioned a repair guy to call but the name slips me now....

You can barely see it in his official bio headshot here-

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi All,

Thanks so much for the info about the brassark and mkdrawing slide crook options, I wasn't aware that Noah was making slide crooks and I used to play a Greenhoe (love those guys!!!) bach that probably had one of the mkdrawing crooks.

I just purchased a Bach 50B20 (yellow brass bell with standard all yellow outer slide with dependent rotors), I had my previous Bach 50B (which I should never have sold) customized with a nickel end crook by Greenhoe and loved it. I want to purchase a gold bell so I can change between the two....

Right now my plan is-

have lead pipe pulled and nickel crook added to slide

then mulling the valve options-

a) have a dependent thayer valve section built

and/or

b) upgrade current valve section with Rotax valves

or

c) Hagman Valves....

so was asking about cost to see what overall budget considerations would be.....

Thanks

Hi There,

Thanks for letting us know about this piece!

How would you describe the rim feel? sharp inner bite or rounder? is the shank slightly longer than current bach shanks?
