Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb and Beatles drummer Ringo Starr have been knighted in the New Year Honours 2018.

Singer-songwriter Sir Barry got his honour for services to music and charity. He was already a CBE in 2002 along with his late brothers and bandmates, Maurice and Robin.

Barry grew up in Manchester but is largely considered an Aussie (albeit a Pommy) because of the time they lived here in Brisbane.

As far as Ringo is concerned the honour comes 20 years after Paul McCartney was knighted but adds to the 1965 MBE which was received by all four Beatles. You may remember that John Lennon returned his to the Queen largely as a protest against the Vietnam war.

Anyway, I like it when musicians get knighted. I have not yet seen the full list of honours to see if there are any other musicians.

All four of the Beatles should have been knighted together decades ago.
