I need your advice here: I have the opportunity to buy a Yamaha 646, Bb/F 525 bore.
Cosmetic not perfect, but seems to work well (I can’t try it).
€500 (about $620?)

What do you think?

I only know the straight version wich is great. The large bores from the 64* series play great also.
Price seems about right.

Not too dented?  Buy it.  You'll probably be able to get back your investment if you decide you don't like it.

That's a great price.  I love the 645 and 646 horns.  Hugely underrated.  My Shires works a little better for me or else I'd have one, hand down.

Beware of chrome plating flaking off the inner slide stockings.
(Doesn't make it unplayable, but it can be annoying to know it's there.)

Yes do look out for that because I'm pretty confident Yamaha doesn't have any replacement parts left (I purchased the last 645 lower slide inner a few years ago, and it's on my franken-yamaha slide on my Shires at the moment).  Unless the 630 series will work.

Great horn; I've used mine for several years for quintet and community band.  VERY flexible and responsive to mouthpiece.  Gives almost a jazz solo sound on quintet with a Yamaha 51B (very shallow), bright and an easy high end; with a Schilke 50 it's a lot more legit sound.  I'm not going to use it for heavy symphonic stuff, but for community band it works great.  Oh, and the trigger register is the best I have used even compared with several .547 horns (88h, Bach, big besson tenor).  Trigger C and D pop right out!
