Urgh.

I haven't been into work today. I'm feeling very much "down", so took a day's leave. However, I really want to nip into work to do just one thing. My car is sitting outside. I love my car, I love driving, and I think I'm a good driver. I'm banned from driving until January 2009. My car is sitting outside, and it isn't far into work, only seven miles. The temptation is appalling. I know my current problems are all my own fault, but this is just SO difficult. :(

Help!

Please Resist Mama!!!

You already gone through a fairly hellish experience, so it would be horrid to get more punishment piled on top of that on the off chance you got caught.  Seven miles may not seem far but you never know where the police may be lurking!

Be strong!

Thank you, Tom. *watery smile*

I can't imagine what they'd do to me if I was caught driving whilst banned, with no licence, no insurance, on probation, and also having had a couple of drinkies. Guantanamo Bay at the very least, for an indefinite period.

But the temptation is still there, burning, and the lack of independence hurts so very much.

Let me be a lesson to others!

Whoo!  Especially after a couple of "drinkies", you shouldn't even think about starting your car!!!

If they catch you, you will most certainly be given a breathalyzer test.  And you'll show up with alcohol.  On probation from DWI, with no license.  If you are lucky you will only have a lifetime ban on driving ever again.  Otherwise, you will have to serve the balance of your prison term, and get another one on top.

Maybe you should invest in a bicycle.  7 miles isn't too far to pedal.

I do have a bicycle, Bruce! In fact, one of the first things I did, after receiving the driving ban, was to drag it out from under the bed, where it had been for the previous 20 years. I still need to get its tyres changed. However, the route to work is bad news. Two choices - a very narrow winding road, where one's life expectancy is a couple of days, or a nice big straight road, but which has to be accessed via the roundabout to the UK's main motorway - life expectancy zero. What's that James Bond gyrocopter called - Little Nellie? - I want one!

I think they'll send you to Salt Lake City UT to open mysterious trumpet cases left on street corners.

Chin up RHM,  You'll get through it!!
Plus you have all of us on the forum as a shoulder to lean on.

Thanks, Eric!

You guys are helping to keep me at home rather than venturing out, for which I'm very grateful.

Crikey, I've just received an email from the Royal Society of London (I'm accessing the works emails), from someone called Jessica Mnatzaganian. Wherever does a surname like that come from? And how do you pronounce it?!

Mnatzaganian?  Sounds Rumanian.  M-n [short] a tz [short]a gay neon.  Accent on the first a.  But I could be very wrong.

RHM, just try to keep up with the new posts on the Forum.  What do you need to do at the Works?  Can you get it "sorta" done at home?

Alternative: if you MUST go into the Works (we would call it a Plant here), take a taxicab.  See if somebody there can drive you home (although by now it's almost quitting time there, no?).

Listen to a couple of numbers on Red Hot Jazz.  I need to make a trascription of Teagarden's "Makin' Friends" to spring on my Band.

You pronounce this with a "Gesundtheit!"  at the end!  hehe

Always glad to help!

:)

Hello Bruce, I think I've done what I needed to do at work - that email to the Royal Society. I tried to do it via the external access to my works email, but it didn't happen. So, I did it via one of my home email accounts and got that response from Jessica Mumblemumblemumble. I'm taking taxicabs very regularly, in fact, every morning, but it really is a pain.

I think maybe I'm safe now. :)

This external access stuff can be a real pain.

I can log into my company network from my home (where I have a wireless setup) but I have to use the company's computer.  In addition, I have this little electric doohickey that generates a 6-digit number that I have to combine with a 4-digit key in order to be able to log in.  Then the screen that comes up gives bogus information about loading Outlook within that window (but I'm supposed to open the generic Outlook from my desktop, or I can't access my mail.

Sheesh!  You'd think if they were going to have some kind of screen with instructions it would be accurate!
