With the goal of trying to feed more discussion of music here, I thought it might be interesting to see what sites and blogs others are checking out, along with sharing some of my favs.  Here are some:

Portland Jazz Festival

The festival's artistic director, Bill Royston, is one of the most eclectic and experienced festival programmers and presenters in the world, and I like his tone and endless curiosity.

the bad plus blog and webzine is primarily the work of Ethan Iverson, the pianist in the trio, but he gathers many other forces and collaborators for a great read.

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society

I firmly believe Darcy is going to be one of the major voices in large ensembles for the next decade+.  If he ever loses his comp/arranging steam, he'd make one helluva writer/journalist.

What do you think of John Allred's stuff?  If you say anything about high or fiddly, I think I'll throw my computer through the wall.....but hey, your entitled to your opinion, right?

What else are you checking out in the great wide musical world?  The musical blogosphere?

I'm not currently checking anything else out, Chip, and I'm not at all interested in blogs. However, if there was an informative and easily accessible site such as redhotjazz, offering the sort of music you mention, I might do so. Can you recommend any?

I've really been diggin this one lately, having read lengthy interviews on Pete Christlieb, Victor Feldman....digs into each person/musician much deeper than most any mag or site I can think of.

The present feature is on Bill Crow, the fine bassist/author.

One of my favorite bands led by one of my favorite drummers, Brian Blade, is the featured live concert on NPR's series, "Live from The Village Vanguard".  Check it out along with a long list of archived concerts, some even downloadable rather than just streamable.
