I was talking to a guy I met a valentine's night gig, and he was talking about a Conn 16H he had up for sale.  I'm kinda kicking around for a new bone, so I asked him to email me some numbers.  Engraved numbers are: 16H  CD970607.  I looked it up on a couple of sites and the closest thing I can find is an Eb alto bone.  Can anyone confirm or correct this?
 Don't know

Thanks,
Kyle McMillan

I think the 16H is the director student model.

I believe that the 16H is one of the older, discontinued student "director" models.

To my knowledge (not comprehensive!!!), the 16H is an Eb Alto model.

try this http://www.xs4all.nl/~cderksen/ConnLooksTrombone.html

the 14H is the old Director model, got one sitting right here, now retired from active duty after many hard fought marching band seasons

BTW, if the 16H is in good shape, it might be a cool horn to get if the price is right.  They quit making them a long time ago (1940's??)

They made a 16H alto through the fortys, but that serial number CDXXXX is from the Texas days.  In the fortys the serial numbers were still six digits with no letters.  It is a student model.  Ask him if it says director on it near the mouthpiece receiver.

Geez Jeff, just when I think I sound like an authority on something.... Don't know

Actually I do remember seeing that the 16H designation was tagged to a later student model, now that you say that.  But, I just can't find where I saw that.

Sorry.  :shuffle:

The problem with getting Conn info is that all of the groovy Conn freak websites only go through the early 70's.  I guess they figured after the move to Texas the allure was gone... Don't know

There's one on ebay.  Not an alto though:
