boy,

vintage and antique made in the '60s, classical no less.

I wonder what the seller would call a trombone made in the 1800's, or prior to 1966?

very truthful too, the seller says "one of a kind"

student trombone listed for $1750

I asked him if it was in Lira or Pesos.

Here's what I wrote:
Is that in Italian Lira or Pesos? 1750 is quite a bit to be asking for
a student model Getzen. You'll probably want to make this an open
bid. I hope you didn't pay that for it.

Here's what I got back:
Hi, thanks for your question, the price is in USD , We cannot accept Lira or Pesos form of payment, and we will only accept a min of $ 1600 for the Getzen, if you are looking for a student unit you may want to buy another one, this one is more for a antique collection - thanks

Well, I guess if he leaves it on there long enough someone might be dumb enough to pay that for it.

I asked the seller "How did you arrive at this price"? I was told "this is what you get". Not too very sure just what that means........

............"I looked at it and said to myself, wow this is worth over a thousand dollars."

"Because I was born in 1980 this thing is a classic."

"Because I need a thousand dollars, thats why."

"Because my neighbor told me it was worth over a thousand dollars"

" Because I know Bob Getzen, Don's brother and he told me it was worth over a thousand dollars."

" Because one day my dad was riding on the city bus going to his trombone lesson and he sat next to Gina Lolobridgida(sp?) and she smiled at him and said, "gee what a nice trombone you have".

"Because I saw one just like it on Ebay and it was over a thousand dollars. Well it was sort of like this one."

This is rather funny. I saw this ad on eBay before reading this thread and felt compelled to send the seller my own note informing him this was a student trombone and was not worth what he was asking for it. I asked how he got to that particular price for a horn that was not professional grade nor collectible.

His response: Thanks for your interest. I will not sell this for less than $1600.

 Don't know

Quote from: Message from me to him
This trombone is not worth that much money.
It's not an antique or a great horn. It's a basic student horn.
I can assure you as a seller of musical instruments who specializes in Brass instruments that this instrument is not worth that kind of money.
This type of trombone is common and probably currently sitting in many attics or basements around the US and Canada.  It is not a rarity and the durability of the line almost ensures that most of these trombones still exist today, though have very little residual value.  Getzen's older instruments do not have a vintage value.  This is not a vintage professional horn from a respected brand.
The value of this instrument in perfect playing condition is at most $400.  Given normal wear and tear, $300.
I'm not trying to be rude, I see you have an assortment of products listed on your account and I am an expert in this field who is simply telling you that your valuation on this item is unfounded and grossly inaccurate.

I think he's still looking for that one that PT Barnum said "was born every minute".

I sent my two cents his way.

I wrote: If you get $1700 for non-vintage student model horn... that truly is one of a kind.

This was his reply:  IT MUst make you sick realizing we have sold 3 of these for as customer and was paid $ 1500 at a local auction house, get a life and stop sending emails from multiple accounts, we have notified ebay of your account abuse. :-0

He must think there is just one party questioning the auction.  A real class act there.

stop sending emails from multiple accounts, we have notified ebay of your account abuse. :-0

He must think there is just one party questioning the auction.  A real class act there.

I sent him one the other day, real polite advising it was a student horn, and his shipping was over priced.

I can ship a t-bone (basic straight horn) just about all over the lower 48 for $15-16 on UPS ground. F attachment horn isn't very much more (unless you use a ton of insurance). That is, as long as you pack it yourself, using recycled materials.

I got about the same response... multiple accounts  Don't know
He must think I'm Koda or something....  :/

I responded with my phone number, and said feel free to call me - and you can verify who I say I am. No response after that.

What an idiot. Way cool

Against my better judgment, I filed a complaint with ebay about him.  It may bite me in the butt, but it may save someone from a bad deal... Lord knows I could have used an intervention or two.

I can't believe the only response s/he is given is to raise the price.  Someone is jacking with us.

someone has made a "private" offer.
