Today's mail brought the November 2011 issue of The International Musician that includes an announcement advertising the audition for the position of Bass Trombone with the Boston Symphony Orchestra:

Seeing this ad today brought back a lot of memories from when I saw a similar ad in 1984, advertising the same position.  I've written a little commentary about this on my website at:

I hadn't realized that this was happening until today when I happened to check your website, Doug. I've been bad at keeping up with trombone happenings lately. Good luck with the change to trombone professor! There is nothing wrong with changing professions within a profession when it is time.

I'd met you when you were in Colorado some years ago for a performance and master class with the Rocky Mountain Brassworks, and before that we'd conversed on the trombone list starting in the late 90's.

I really need to check this forum more often...
