So, as many of you know I am in the Concert Orchestra of the interschool orchestra's of NYC. On February 2nd, at 7 o'clock we are playing at CARNEGIE HALL! I am so excited. Here is the link to my ticket selling page http://isorchestra.donorpages.com/40thgala/ottisthetrombonist  as well as the link to my orchestra page isorch.org. I know the pic of me on my page is old, and i'll update it when I get a new trombone..... I cant decide which one yet...anyways I have a solo too! I am very excited, but also nervous. Any tips, comments, suggestions, anything would be greatly appreaciated. thanks!

Any tips, comments, suggestions,
Enjoy it.  This is something you will remember the rest of your life.

A mistake I often made when I was younger was to take special things for granted and not really appreciate how special they were.

This is a big one.

Tips and suggestions?

If you have any others that may be flaking out on such a opportunity due to work or school or any other regular activity remind them, "Will you remember the work you did tomorrow, or that paycheck to be earned? Or will you remember the time you walked out onto the stage at Carnegie Hall, as not a guest or a tour, but as a performer?"

Make sure you get a picture of yourself (and your section?) in your tux with your horn in front of CH.

It's an old joke but the answer to the question, "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" will always be, "Practice! Practice! Practice!"

A conductor once told me, "that hall plays itself." So easy to sound better than you are, as an ensemble, in that hall. The night I played there it was true magic, more so than other nights we played, and there was definitely magic in the hall.

What is good for the musicians is not necessarily good for the audience.  I don't know anything about Carnegie Hall, but I recently played several times with different ensembles -- repertoire all over the map -- in a new hall that is supposedly world class for acoustics.  They have all these high-priced acoustic consultants fiddling around with stuff, stroking their chins knowingly.  I hope it sounds good for the audience.  All I know is I can't hear the musicians sitting 30 feet from me.  But the staff and management think they are all brilliant.  Emperor's new clothes.

OTOH, there is a small theater in a nearby high school that is just fantastic.  I think it probably seats 750.  There are no acoustic consultants, no sound engineers, no highly paid consultants. But you can hear everything on stage, and the sound out in the hall is just great for all sorts of ensembles.
