3)  Yes, I've had some serious health issues, thanks for your concern.  I am much better now.
I'm glad to hear that.  That's great news.

That will make it easier to enjoy your 120' yacht that shuttles you between the various tropical islands you have been able to purchase with the vast profits from this site.  :)

Stay well and have Jeeves whip up an extra piņa colada in my honor.

BIG NEWS INDEED
===========================

1)  TTF isn't a non-profit.  It's not a for-profit either, it just, well, is.

2)  The rather passive-aggressive shadowings that somehow this place is augmenting my personal wealth are bizarre.  I can't even respond.  It's not.

3)  Yes, I've had some serious health issues, thanks for your concern.  I am much better now.

4)  Don't worry about thanking me--having the site independent and user-operated was why I took it on eight years ago. (Yep, it's been that long.)  Thank the STAFF, who keep this place going, and pat yourselves on the back for using it.

5)  From this point forward, if anyone has a beef, would you please just email me about it?  Dropping by the site for a rare visit becomes a bit of a downer when I read some of the ridiculous assertions and unkind smarmy remarks.  As hard as it may be for some of you to believe, I have no masterful Machiavellian plans for the leverage of the Forum membership or funds to start a land war in south-central Asia.

Peace,
r

Glad to hear you're doing better, Richard.  I wish you good health for the future.

As far as the "passive-aggressive" and "unkind" remarks go, I think the main beef was the lack of transparency and also the lack of communication, including your lack of response to email.

Best,

Dave

 Yeah, RIGHT.

Are we going to start this again? Please, let's not.

"The main beef I have with your gift horse is that you didn't specifically show me what exactly was in its mouth."

This criticism of Richard is petty (Sorry--unintentional Nascar reference) and I think we've heard all we need to hear from those who feel they deserved better documentation of where their $10.00 went when they volunteered to donate money to the forum. It's not going to happen. That's Richard. Get used to it or go to that "better" trombone site.

Better site? What better site?? Amazed Horrors! Clever Bad dog.  No Biscuits.

Seems to me that most people aren't worried about where the money goes, as long as it goes to TTF. They just want to know that it's actually got there, rather than being lost in cyberspace (which is certainly why I've never used Paypal myself). An automated "thankee kindly" would answer this concern - is this a function which Paypal offers?

I don't know if it's a PayPal function or an eBay function, but every time I pay for an auction using PayPal I get a notice in my mail that the payment was made.

Paypal has a very clear account statement.  If it shows the payment was made, then it reached the TTF.

Me too. I've sent two emails with no response. Hey, it says if your name isn't on the list, let them know, and I did.

This sums it up for me. Like ddickerson, I was following instructions to the letter.

I don't think, as has been asserted, that this qualifies as petty.

In fact, the key to the recognition page, in my opinion, would be (a) offer up transparency, and perhaps more importantly, (b) maybe inspire others to contribute. Just as others inspired me to donate, maybe my donation would inspire others.

Anyway, thank you to all who donate(d) time, expertise and money, and thank you to those that make TTF a civil, entertaining, worthy forum.

There seems to be some confusion about the points I was trying to make in this topic.  I'll try to be clearer in this post.

1.  Based on the current market for domain name registration and web site hosting against what can be discerned from the donations page and my personal experience generating ad revenue, it seems likely that TTF as an individual entity is running in the black.  Whatever modest amount is left over can and should go to Richard for his trouble.

2.  It's not clear when donating to TTF that your money is actually going to Richard's web hosting business, Broken Consort Technologies.  Since this is where TTF is hosted, the donation is indirectly helping TTF.

3.  Keeping the donations page current and confirming they are received would be nice.

#1. Is just in response to those who responded that TTF is a money pit.  #2 and #3 are simply good practices for organizations who rely on donations to keep donors giving in future years and inspiring others to contribute.

All the responses about petty attacks, land wars in Asia, yachts, and love it or leave it, are really not relevant to what I was trying to communicate.  Sorry if I've not been clear enough.
