My son Has got a couple of auditions set up in the next few weeks ( Oklahoma state and Univ of Arkansas).  My question is How quickly do we hear from the schools?  Do they usually tell you right away if you are accepted and then get back to you with financial information? Or must we wait to hear for weeks about his acceptance.   Thanks in advance

Factors would be how many more audition weekends each school will be holding after your son's date as well as how many spots the studio is seeking to fill. You are right that you might find out about acceptance before financial assistance is mentioned, perhaps by a wide margin of time.  My son didn't find out about financial aid from the music school until after others on other instruments who had been offered scholarships failed to matriculate--there was then leftovers that were offered till the money ran out.

Depends on the situation. I've known students to get offered money on the spot, I've also known students to wait until as late as August to be accepted to certain schools (waiting list)  Eeek!

A friend of my son was offered a full ride right on the spot at a school in FL.  The school she went to gave her a scholarship either the same day or right after, also.

Hi,

I auditioned at both schools, and heard back within a month. You generally have 2-3 weeks to decide whether to take their offer. Your son will have a pretty good idea whether he got in or not based off of the professor. Best wishes to him!

Typically no offer will be made until after all the auditions are over at that school. Offers in writing are the only offers you should consider. Until its in writing, it is not official.

Also keep in mind: often the person hearing the audition has no authority to make the awards - but only recommendations to the admissions office.

There are many factors that go into the admissions process.

If in doubt, talk to the admissions director for the school, and/or the the person officially in charge of making the offers.

Very good and credible information.
