We provide image storage.  It's called a Gallery.

You can upload your image to the Gallery (you can actually create a personal gallery -- it's free) and then post the pictures into a thread from a location in the Gallery.

Still can't figure out how to upload a pic to the gallery or create my own gallery.  Please advise.

The Gallery is kinda finicky about images.  It will only accept pictures smaller than a particular size (1024x768?) and not every type of image will work.

What are you trying to load?

Just a regular picture of me. Nothing special.  I can enter a file via the "update profile" page (rejects it), but no mention of a "gallery", and no mention anywhere about uploading to a "gallery".  I was able to load a picture into a post a while back, but I never used a gallery per se.  This is the "response" I get after trying to uplode a pic to my profile:   "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."

<Edit: fixed post and removed "quote" with additional information>

If you are trying to use your picture as an Avatar, it has to be 100x100 pixels and has to be JPG, TIF, BMP, or a couple of other formats (I don't remember which).

If you are trying to put it in as your picture, it can be larger, but still can't be more than 1024x768 pixels (maybe smaller).

You may be trying to use a photo image that is not an acceptable format.  Or you may not be using the right commands.

1.  Are you in the Modify Profile screen?  (I know that seems dumb, but just asking)
2.  Have you put in the right incantation for the location of the picture you are trying to upload?
3.  Does the picture have a proper extension?  If not, use a conversion program like Windows Picture Manager or Paint to convert it to something like a Bitmap or JPEG.  Also, don't get fancy with 24 bit color; the files may be a bit too big.

Finally, try putting the picture in a PM to me or in your post (use the IMG tags on either side of the picture URL) and let's see if it even posts.

Perhaps you used the "Attach file" facility under the "Additional Options" drop-down on the new post page.

Sounds to me like an configuration problem on the new server, i.e. SMF does not have permission save uploaded files in the directory specified by the sysadmin as the upload directory.

Let's see if this works.  I'm going to try to upload a file from my computer (goes into the Gallery):

Hey!  Guess what?  This is at the header on the Gallery:

Warning Gallery path is not writable! /vhost/tromboneforum.org/www/html/gallery/

I guess I know why you had the problem.

Wait until we get the regular server back; maybe it will work then.

Hmm.
I've been running into problems trying to add a picture in the classifieds.
Same issue as with the gallery?

Say what?  I'm under the impression that TFF now resides at its new home.  If that is, in fact, the case, the problem will be resolved when the sysadmin fixes the configuration problem.

Very likely.

From another thread:

This isn't the upgrade.  This is the bit where the server lives somewhere else while I execute the upgrades.  Perhaps some of you missed that.
