There have been a LOAD of folks here who have had problems posting pictures.  They usually get something called "upload buffer full".  I think this buffer is fictitious since I ALWAYS get that message.  Here is a way to get an image posted:

1.  Make sure the image has a URL.  Put it in a photo service like Photobucket or Flickr.  You can also load the image into our Gallery, although you may find there are some serious limitations in gallery image size.

2.  Open the image and right-click on it.  Select Copy Image URL.  This is how to do it in Windows; maybe folks using other systems can reply with the appropriate incantations.

3.  Now select the Image button: it's the 2nd one in from the left in the 2nd row of buttons.  It will insert a pair of tags: img and /img surrounded by square brackets.  Paste your image URL inside the  tags and you are good to go.

Here is an example of the code:

Code:
[img]http://tromboneforum.org/gallery/722_06_04_09_8_43_53.gif[/img]

and the result is:

Thanks, Bruce! Good!

Personally, I'm really annoyed by what Google has done to itself. I used to be able to grab an image shortcut from there, put "img" on either side of it, then upload directly into a topic here. I can't do that any more. :(

Sometimes this one click method seems to work on TTF and sometimes it doesn't. This time it did. (From my own Public Dropbox folder)

But if it does not work...and who knows why or when that might be on this site...you can also use straight html coding. (<img src="the proper URL">)

That's how I did this one.

My 2 cents...

Seems like the Browse/Attach function under "Additional Options..." is working again. This is a test; if you see a photo below, it's working.

Strange. The photo posted, but I can see it only when I'm logged in. When I pull up the thread as a guest, there's no photo  Don't know

I'm pretty sure that is by design - I've seen that on other forums as well.  One of the perks of becoming  a member is that you can see attachments.  I think it might still show pictures if they're linked to other websites (i.e. using [img] tags).

I tried using the Browse key and the PDF I attached showed as a link instead of a picture. Does it have to have a URL?

Not just any URL.  Often if you copy the URL of a thumbnail it won't work either.

In Windoze you have to right-click on the actual picture and select "copy image URL".  I have done this  with Internet Explorer (5 through 9), Chrome, and Firefox.  Don't know if it works with other browsers since I don't use them.  I think I remember doing it in Opera.

This function to attach an image is not longer working. When I choose "Additional Options" then choose a file (which I have on my hard drive and it is small only 10 Kbytes or so), I get the following message:

"An Error Has Occurred!
The upload folder is full. Please try a smaller file and/or contact an administrator.

Did you read the first post in this thread?

Note that I am having trouble following my suggestions when using Microsoft Edge.  It doesn't offer a Copy Image URL option.  I have to use Examine Element, copy the element, and then trim the element back to the simple URL.  Pain in the neck to do and may be more than some users can handle.

Note to future posters:

I've just finished posting photos for the first time via Photobucket.  Bruce, your instructions are indeed spot-on.  Just make sure the image URL is public (no sign-in required), then put its URL inside
Code:
[img][/img]
tags:

Code:
[img]http://your.photo.url[/img]

It's that simple.  Dropbox, Photobucket, Flickr, Picasa, etc. -- just make sure the URL is public.

My attempts at HTML did not go so swimmingly: seems the HTML parser is rather limited in what it can do.  The forum runs on Simple Machines Forum (http://www.simplemachines.org/)--web-based bulletin board software--so if you're technically able, you might be able to dig through their website.  A warning: we're on a rather old version of the software:

Quote
Powered by SMF 1.1 RC2 | SMF 2006-2008, Simple Machines LLC

so it might behoove us to persuade the TTF administrators to do some maintenance on our behalf and bring us up to date.  For my part, I'm happy to help: I do this stuff full-time for a university here in the Boston area.

I'll add that the step by step instructions also state that one can place their image in TTF website's gallery in order to let pictures as long as the size is small enough. It worked famously for me.

Sadly the only person who can update the software is the Site Owner, Richard Byrd.  We Administrators do not have the power.

I have to say that it is a really big loss to the forum that we can no longer upload pictures to our Gallery.

Surely somebody must be able to contact Richard to get him to fix all the small problems? Has anyone seen him around to know that he is well? I can't believe he would just ignore these problems because he was always so proud of the forum.

For what it's worth, I can't attach a file to my posting either.  I tried to attach a spreadsheet and got the same error message that you get trying to upload a picture.

Wish I could figure out a better way around this.
