Just read on Twitter that original Tower of Power trumpeter Mic Gillette has passed away.

The intro on "Still a Young Man" on the "Live & in Living Color" recording will always give me goosebumps!!

What a sound!

Blow with the Angels Mr. Gillette!!

Sad news, indeed.

From the ToP website:
Quote
The Tower of Power family was stunned today by the news that Mic Gillette, our dear friend and bandmate going back to 1966, passed away. Mic was without a doubt the greatest brass player I've ever known. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Julia and his daughter Megan and their entire family."

Emilio Castillo - Bandleader for Tower of Power

An amazing musician and, from what I've heard, an all-around good guy.

I've merged the two Mic Gillette topics.  Thanks to JohnL for pointing them out.

Mic died as he lived - giving to others.  He would have been happy to know how many others cared.

The two CD's he did with his own band after that are also very good.
"Moon Doggy" and "Turning Two" are a lot of fun, and his wife/manager almost certainly still have copies available.  And getting a bunch of sales right now would probably be good for her, especially if you said something nice about Mic when you ordered - she's feeling very alone right now.
