http://www.ebay.com/itm/Post-2000s-Conn-88H-Tenor-Trombone-with-F-Attachment-/302128034388?hash=item46583bf254:g:PGkAAOSwB09YG1R~

Why is this priced higher than a brand new 88H?

Usually his outrageous markups seem related to some bizarre custom work or refabrication. This case appears to be just straight up gouging?

I just offered $350.  Seems about right.

You know, when someone has something with an unknown value, I can see them posting it at a very high BIN and just seeing what offers they get.  But when a business does it, it just makes them look bad.

People sometimes pay stupid money on eBay.  Maybe he's trying to hook a fish.

Never assign to malice what can be more easily assigned to incompetence.  I'm guessing he just isn't thinking much about it.

Heck, he may have $3K in it with purchase price and repair work.  That wouldn't be very smart, but is entirely possible.

Shopping at Schmidthauer's...

Theo: "How much is the tool set?"
Clerk: "$299.95"
Theo: "I just saw that same tool set on tv for $19.95"
Clerk: "The tool set is $19.95. The Schmidthauer name is $280.00"

Mike sells stuff on consignment, right? Might this be that sort of deal? Trombone Prof in question thinks his horn is worth a ton? This sounds likely...

Of course inflating a buy it now in the hopes that your offers are higher than normal is an oft-used tactic by some ebayers. It's annoying.

Mike knows that horn won't fetch 3K. Not yet. We're probably at least 2 years away from that kind of ridiculous inflation.

The consignment theory has some validity!

The same pictures of the horn were posted on the Trombone Marketplace on Facebook with an asking price of 1900$ instead of 3000$.
