The Redland City Band is featured in the February/March edition of Senior Lifestyle Bayside. This is a local publication here in the bayside area of Brisbane, Australia.

Trumpet player Joy Lovey is beaming at us from the front page and inside there is an article “a chord with seniors”, which is mainly about Joy but also good publicity for the band. There is an interview with the new Band Musical Director, Peter Francis.

I find it a bit strange that the only two band photos included are of the Redland City Big Band, which is the band I play with, but that is probably because of the predominance of we grey-haired seniors. Yeah, RIGHT.

The article does mention that the Redland City Band has ‘many ensembles’, which include the following rehearsal times:- Big Band 7pm on Monday nights, Beginner Concert Band 6.30pm on Tuesday nights, followed at 8.30pm by Jazz Improv, Concert Band at 7pm on Wednesday nights and Wind Ensemble at 7pm on Thursday nights.

Most importantly it does say that “Redland City Band prides itself on giving musicians, regardless of age, opportunities to develop.” It then goes on to say nice things about what both the younger and older musicians bring to the band.

"May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay......forever young."

Hi Graham, thanks for your post. Are you aware of our big trombone event at the Con in Brisbane in June?

Here are the details in case you and your fellow band members are interested in attending:
