1  Creation and Performance / The Healthy Trombonist / Re: Peroneus Brevis Tendon/Brostrom Ligament repair/recovery time on: Dec 31, 2014, 07:37PM
I'm sorry you haven't gotten a response yet, but honestly I have no idea what the recovery process is for something like this and no personal experience with leg injuries as an adult. I did break my leg when I was a child and was in a cast up to my hip for something like eight weeks, then on crutches for a few more weeks. I have vivid memories of that whole experience and I really can empathize with your comment about being in a cast for 4-6 weeks!  Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

I have pretty chronic sacroiliac joint pain, which my doctor called Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction some years ago.  It gets much worse when I sit for long periods of time or if I move the wrong way while walking.  Here's a link to an overview of SI Joint pain causes and treatments:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/patientinstructions/000610.htm

I do not have any sort of acute injury to the joint, but the pain seems to diminish considerably if I do exercises regularly.  I went to physical therapy for several months shortly after my doctor initially diagnosed the problem, and I learned that in my case lessening the symptoms amounts to a combination of strengthening lower back, pelvic, and abdominal muscles via routine exercising.  I've also discovered that if I begin to have pain while walking, I can usually lessen or eliminate the pain by paying close attention to my posture while I walk. I also try to make a point of getting up and moving around a bit at least once every 30 minutes.  When I'm forced to sit for much longer than that, I often have some pretty severe hip pain.

As I said earlier, I did not recall any one specific injury to the joint at the time I initially saw my doctor about it.  That said, I can really be careless at times and I've fallen very hard on my backside a number of times in my adult life, and I'm quite sure that did not help matters!  :/  Hopefully you're feeling better, but if not you might want to check with your physician to make sure you haven't done serious damage.

Just less than three hours to go until the New Year where I live.   I'm not likely to be able to stay awake that late, but Happy New Year to those who are already in 2015.  Good!

I haven't tried MWOD, but I did start learning some yoga exercises within the last year.  If I do them regularly there is a noticeable improvement in my flexibility and strength and muscle tone.  I agree that playing trombone helps tremendously, and I generally feel best when I'm exercising regularly in addition to playing trombone a lot.

I wear "mono vision" contact lenses that are great for everything except (you guessed it) ... music. So, the engineer in me decided to ask my eye doc for a special lens with a prescription halfway between the two I usually wear. It works like magic for me. I use it in place of my "far vision" lens. And, unlike the problem I have with my glasses (Verilux lenses), the angle doesn't matter: music is clear whether I'm sitting or standing.

I also wear mono vision contact lenses, and as you said, they work well for just about everything.  Even music reading is okay, but not as clear as I'd like.  I may ask my eye doctor about a "halfway between" prescription and see if that helps.  One question, though.  If you're using it instead of your distance lens, how does it affect you when you drive?  I'm not sure I could see clearly enough to drive with anything less than my normal distance lens.

I missed a bunch of pages, too.  Actually, I thought I had posted in here right after New Year's Day, but I think it got lost in the update.  Anyway, belated Happy New Year.  I'll have a hot chocolate with marshmallows.  Keep your fingers crossed that we get snow and not ice here tomorrow.
