The Commitments

Jimmy Rabbitte:   Do you not get it, lads?     The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud.

A recent post in a far corner of our forum brought this TV line to my mind that Buddy Ebsen as Jed Clampett said and it goes something like this, "You CAN make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but it's a mighty pitiful silk purse".  :D  :D

"So long, and thanks for all the fish."

From the film but is also the title of a book - actually the fourth book of a "trilogy".

"She can play!" Spoken by a very relieved Kenneth More.

Still my very favourite clip from old 50s movies:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_S4UIlFuWw

And the master trumpet behind Kay Kendall is of course Kenny Baker, for many years the top session trumpet player in the UK but sadly no longer with us. When Kenny died in 1999, they said of him, "It's not just the passing of good man and a wonderful musician, it's the end of an era musically." And they were right!

And I saw that movie before I saw Spartacus.  When the scene came up in Spartacus, I couldn't stop laughing as I remembered the scene in Life of Brian... :D

What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?

My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.

The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.

I was misinformed.
